![]() ![]() Although he doesn’t have his own restaurant like his Disney equivalent does at Magic Kingdom, the “Shrek” version of Pinocchio still has a part to play at Universal Orlando. Finally, Pinocchio can again be found as you exit into “Shrek’s Ye Olde Souvenir Shoppe” appearing as if he’s swooning over a wooden mannequin head, as seen in the photo above. The puppet’s nose is also central to his appearance at the end of the main presentation when the attraction’s 3D make it seem to grow out into the audience after telling a lie to Shrek. So as Shrek 4D prepares to close on August 13, let us take a walk through Universal’s history and see how the venue has changed over the years. Pinocchio’s first appearance in the attraction is in the preshow as one of the prisoners in Lord Farquad’s dungeon, but only his growing nose is visible since the rest of him is locked up in an iron maiden. Given his scene-stealing role in these films, it’s no surprise that he was included in Universal Studios Florida’s “Shrek 4D.” However, one of the most irreverent versions of this popular character can be seen in DreamWorks’ “Shrek” movie, in which he is one of the fairy tale creatures that take refuge in Shrek’s swamp after being banished from Duloc. A creation of 19th Century author Carlo Calloni, Pinocchio’s story has been adapted for animation many other times over the years ranging from the 1965 sci-fi reimagining “Pinocchio In Space” to an upcoming stop motion musical produced by Guillermo del Toro for Netflix. The final send-off was a bit delayed as the ride has some technical issues right before the park closed at 7.
